Synonyms nivṛtta-tarṣaiḥ — by persons who are freed from all material hankerings; upagīyamānāt — which is sung or described; bhava-auṣadhāt — which is the right medicine for the material disease; śrotra — the process of aural reception; manaḥ — the subject matter of thought for the mind; abhirāmāt — from the pleasing vibrations from such glorification; kaḥ — who; uttama-śloka — of the Supreme Personality of Godhead; guṇa-anuvādāt — from describing such activities; pumān — a person; virajyeta — can keep himself aloof; vinā — except; paśu-ghnāt — either a butcher or one who is killing his own personal existence.

Translation Who will not hear the glorification of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, which is pleasing to the ears and mind and which is the right medicine for the disease of material existence? Only those who are killers of animals or killers of their own selves will not hear it.

Translation Although I have given up drinking even water, I am not at all tormented by hunger. Rather, I am satisfied by drinking the nectar of the topics of Lord Hari flowing from Your lotus mouth.

Translation O King, those who have conquered their senses and are freed from material desires sometimes speak the topics of Lord Kṛṣṇa with a desire to hear more about Him.

Synonyms ye — those who; anye — others; aravinda-akṣa — O lotus-eyed Lord; vimukta-māninaḥ — who consider themselves liberated; tvayi — unto You; asta-bhāvāt — without devotional service; aviśuddha-buddhayaḥ — whose intelligence is impure; āruhya — ascending; kṛcchreṇa — with great difficulty; param — supreme; padam — position; tataḥ — from there; patanti — fall; adhaḥ — down; anādṛta — not respecting; yusmat-aṅghrayaḥ — Your lotus feet.

Translation O lotus-eyed Lord, although nondevotees who accept severe austerities and penances to achieve the highest position may think themselves liberated, their intelligence is impure. They fall down from their position of imagined liberation because they have no regard for Your lotus feet.

Translation Upon whom I am very pleased, I gradually take away all his wealth. And when he is bereft of everything, he takes shelter of Me and thus becomes glorious.

Translation Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: After hearing the Lord's words, Devakī, who was very anxious for the safety of her son, replied to the Supreme Person.

Synonyms mahat-vicalanam — the movement of great personalities; nṝṇām — of human beings; gṛhiṇām — especially householders; dīna-cetasām — who are very simple-minded; niḥśreyasāya — for the ultimate benefit; bhagavan — O great personality; kalpate — is meant; na — not; anyathā — otherwise; kvacit — at any time.

Translation O my lord, O great devotee, persons like you move from one place to another not for their own interests but for the sake of poor-hearted gṛhasthas [householders]. Otherwise they have no business going from door to door.

Translation Those who see the pastimes of this child, full of strength, will desire the world that fulfills all desires at every step.

Translation Those devotees who have thrown away the impersonal conception of the Absolute Truth and have therefore abandoned all kinds of speculative knowledge, and who with their body, mind and words are engaged in the devotional service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, live in this world very happily. They conquer Your Lordship, although You are unconquerable by the three worlds.

Translation We have rejected the path of the Vedas that promises auspiciousness and have taken shelter of Your devotees. O Kṛṣṇa, hearing Your topics is our supreme bliss, and thus we are always situated in You.

Translation My dear Lord, one who earnestly waits for You to bestow Your causeless mercy upon him, all the while patiently suffering the reactions of his past misdeeds and offering You respectful obeisances with his heart, words and body, is surely eligible for liberation, for it has become his rightful claim.

Translation Pure devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead is achieved by those who hear with faith the pure topics of the devotees.

Translation The gopīs took their garments and always offered obeisances to Kṛṣṇa, bowing down to please Him.

Translation Persons who constantly direct their lust, anger, fear, protective affection, feeling of impersonal oneness or friendship toward Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, have the power to attain the Lord's devotional service.

Translation O lotus-eyed one, those who spread Your fame by chanting Your glories are certainly the most munificent welfare workers in the world. The nectar of Your topics is the life of those who are tormented by material existence, it destroys all sins, it is most auspicious to hear, and it is glorified by great sages.

Translation The status of powerful controllers is not harmed by any apparently audacious transgression of morality we may see in them, for they are just like fire, which devours everything fed into it and remains unpolluted.

Translation Anyone who faithfully hears or describes the Lord's playful affairs with the young gopīs of Vṛndāvana will attain the Lord's pure devotional service. Thus he will quickly become sober and conquer lust, the disease of the heart.

Translation O lotus-eyed one, great souls like Lord Śiva hanker to bathe in the dust of Your lotus feet and thereby destroy their ignorance. If I cannot obtain Your mercy, I would rather give up my life, which is emaciated by vows, even after hundreds of births.

Translation How can I, a poor beggar, be considered worthy of Your mercy? O Kṛṣṇa, supreme ocean of mercy, how can I hope for You? I shall not go in vain to Your lotus feet.
